Rāj yoga, Dhan yoga, Mahāpuruṣa yoga — planetary combinations that concentrate specific results, with real chart examples.
A yoga is a planetary combination that concentrates meaning. Rāj yoga lifts a person toward authority and recognition. Dhan yoga builds wealth over time. Mahāpuruṣa yoga shapes the character itself — the specific form it takes depends on which planet forms the yoga and in which house. But yogas do not work in isolation. Their strength depends on the dignity of the planets involved, the houses they own from the Lagna, the Navamsha positions, and crucially whether the Vimshottari dasha activates them. A raja yoga formed by weak, debilitated planets in dusthāna houses gives very little. These lessons work through each major combination with real example charts so you can spot a yoga, assess its actual strength, and understand in which phase of a lifetime it delivers its results — if at all.
Jaya Yoga & Service vs. Business
Jaya Yoga — the yoga of victory over enemies: 6L in 6H, 3L in 3H, or both combining positively. How to determine if a chart is service-oriented or business-oriented using the 6H vs. 7H balance and Arudhas. Applied to Sanjay Gandhi's Rasi chart: power without wisdom.
Dusthana Yogas — Harsha, Sarala & Vimala
What happens when the lords of dusthana houses (6L, 8L, 12L) occupy their own houses. Harsha Yoga (6L in 6H): victory over enemies and disease. Sarala Yoga (8L in 8H): protection from catastrophe. Vimala Yoga (12L in 12H): contentment and release from debt.
Raj Yogas from Charakarakas — Vajpayee & George W. Bush
AK + PuK (Parasara Raj Yoga): soul and blind-followers united in 1H or 5H = Maharaja. AK + PiK (Jaimini Raj Yoga): soul and elder-sponsors united = rising through patronage. Contrasted with Vajpayee (democratic following) vs. Bush Jr. (father's blessing).
Muhurta Charts, Ghatika Lagna, Yogada & Special Yogas
Muhurta charts for political candidacy — moment of filing nomination as birth of the candidacy, not the person. Ghatika Lagna (GL): source of power and authority. Yogada: planet associating with both lagna and GL gives power during its dasha. Graha Malika Yoga (garland of planets in consecutive houses), Kala Sarpa and Kala Amrita Yoga, Sarpa and Mala Yoga definitions and their results in practice.
Result Exchange Rule, Vipreeta Raja Yoga & Arudha Pada Analysis
Result exchange rule: when two planets are in exact conjunction, they exchange results. Exact conditions for Vipreeta Raj Yoga (6L in 6H, 8L in 8H, 12L in 12H) — when it gives actual raja yoga vs when it simply protects from harm. Arudha Pada analysis from TP annual chart: lord of any Arudha in kendra/trine from lagna = that Arudha flourishes. A2 (2nd Arudha) in 11H = public seen as wealthy. A4 lord in 8H/12H = troubled residence.
Parivrajya Yoga, Saturn/Rahu AL Rules & Mahapurusha Priority
Parivrajya (genuine renunciation) Yoga: Moon in a Mars navamsha + conjoined or aspected by Saturn. Without this yoga, even a formal sanyasi is only outwardly renunciate. Swami Jayendra: Moon+Saturn in Aquarius (Saturn's own sign) = highest order of Parivrajya Yoga. Saturn/Rahu special AL rules: Saturn in 12th from AL = image paradox (people doubt genuine sanyasa). Mahapurusha Yoga priority: if two Mahapurusha Yogas compete, higher trikona wins; exaltation beats Moolatrikona in same trikona.
Jaya Yoga — Victory Over Enemies & George W. Bush D10 Analysis
Jaya Yoga (Victory Yoga): planet that is lord of both the lagna and the 6th house in D10, or specific combinations that give victory over competition. Bush's D10: 7th lord Saturn in lagna → Dwisaptati Sama Dasha applies. Jupiter Dasha (April 2000–April 2009): Gajakesari → presidency. March-April 2000: Bush was behind McCain, then McCain's support collapsed suddenly (Jaya Yoga activated). Service vs business in D10: Sun as karaka for service; 7H in D10 as karaka for business. D10 job-hunting rules.
Key Principles — Sign vs Lord, Venus-Rahu Pull & Parivartana Rules
Sign vs Lord philosophy: signs are inanimate circumstances; lords are the consciousness that navigates them. You see the lord for attitude and choices, the sign for the circumstances you face. Venus-Rahu relationship: Rahu amplifies Venus's materialistic pull — person becomes obsessed with material desires when Rahu aspects/conjuncts Venus. Parivartana (exchange) Raj Yoga vs Duryoga rules (expanded) — when a parivartana gives Raj Yoga vs when it creates a Duryoga. Exaltation of 6th lord: important clarification on when it helps vs hurts.
Pope John Paul II — Tapasya Yoga, Lakshmi Yoga & D10 Dikpala Analysis
Eclipses as triggers for major transitions: ~80% of papal transitions in last 190 years happened within a month of successive solar+lunar eclipses. Pope John Paul II chart analysis as a case study in spiritual greatness. Tapasya Yoga (Venus + Ketu + Saturn in mutual trines OR together) = genuine ascetic. When AK is involved in Tapasya Yoga → tapasya comes from the soul's desire across many past lives. Lakshmi Yoga in the chart. D10 Dikpala amsha interpretation for a spiritual leader. Parampara indicators: how the chart shows the knowledge lineage a person carries. Jaimini conditional dasha applied.
Bill Gates — Dasha Applicability Check & D10 Sun Dasha Career Analysis
Dasha applicability check for Bill Gates: does Vimshottari or a conditional dasha apply? Saturn/Ketu/nodes analysis for special dasha conditions. D10 (Dasamsa) Sun Dasha analysis: the Sun as karaka for authority and government — in Gates' chart this corresponds to charitable/philanthropic authority rather than government. Three special dusthana yogas in the chart: Harsha Yoga (6L in 6H = victory over enemies), Sarala Yoga (8L in 8H = straightforward achiever), Vimala Yoga (12L in 12H = freedom from expenditure bondage) — all three together = very strong.
Vijay — D2 Hora Financial Analysis, Vipritha Rajyoga & Ghatika Lagna in D2
D2 Hora chart applied to Vijay's finances: how the Hora lagna determines the mode of wealth (Sun Hora = through authority; Moon Hora = through public service/contacts). Vipritha Rajyoga expansion: 3H lord in 3H is also a Vipritha Rajyoga (along with 6H, 8H, 12H) — gives self-reliance and ability to fight own battles. Ghatika Lagna in D2: a planet connecting lagna and GL in D2 = Yogada for money and authority combined. Vaiseshikamsa and Devaloka amshas in D9: what the highest amsha levels indicate for spiritual vs material path.
Arudha Padas Deep Reading, Parivartana Yoga Rules & Mahapurusha Triggers
Arudha padas deep reading principles: how to interpret the image of any house area. A9 (Bhagya Pada) in different houses determines the visible form of fortune — demonstrated with the Mumbai example chart. Transits on Arudha padas: when a malefic transits over AL, the native's image takes a hit publicly; when a benefic transits, image improves. Parivartana Yoga rules: when is it a Raj Yoga and when is it a Duryoga? Mahapurusha Yoga triggers and duration: which dasha activates the Mahapurusha and how long it lasts.
Chris Chart — Career Decision via Annual TP & A9+A10+A4 Material Raja Yoga
Chris's chart: annual TP analysis for a career decision (should he change jobs?). How to read the annual TP for career decisions: Karma Sahama, 10H from TP lagna, Hora lord connections to 10H. A9+A10+A4 material Raja Yoga: when the Bhagya Pada (A9), Career Image Pada (A10), and Home Pada (A4) are all linked in the chart, the person achieves material success in a stable, grounded way. Deity for the year: how to identify which deity to worship based on the annual TP chart and the person's current dasha lord.
Sathya Sai Baba Chart Analysis — Spiritual Combinations & Vishnu Avatar Rule
Sathya Sai Baba chart (Puttaparthi) analyzed as a case study in exceptional spiritual greatness. Core spiritual indicators: Rahu/Ketu axis involving 8H and 12H (siddhis and mystic powers), 8L in 12H (doorway to mystic powers), Ketu in 12H from AK in D9 (moksha orientation). Moksha indicators in Navamsa: 12H from AK with Ketu = strong moksha possibility. Vishnu avatar combination (Devlokamsa): Parashara's rule — at least 2 planets in Devlokamsa AND in a mutual Raja Yoga = born as Vishnu's avatar in this life. Comparison with Ramana Maharshi's different spiritual signature.
Jyotishi Yoga (1/3/5/6 Connection), Mahapurusha + Retrograde Rule & Debilitation of Trine vs Kendra vs Dusthana Lords
Jyotishi yoga = connection between lords of houses 1, 3, 5, and 6: 1st = core consciousness; 5th = scholarship and wisdom; 3rd = initiative to apply intelligence; 6th = ability to overcome obstacles. "Even 2-3 of these connected = partial Jyotishi yoga." Mahapurusha yoga + retrogression: if the planet is EXALTED + retrograde = Uchchabhanga cancels the exaltation benefit → yoga becomes very weak ("retrograde effectively debilitates an exalted planet"). If the planet is in OWN SIGN + retrograde = own sign is NOT cancelled by retrograde → Mahapurusha yoga survives. Rule: "Retrogression nullifies exaltation but NOT own sign." Debilitation grading: Dusthana lord (3/6/8/11/12) debilitated = DESIRABLE — the obstacle-creator is weakened, fewer obstacles arise. Kendra lord (4/7/10) debilitated = moderate concern. Trine lord (1/5/9) debilitated = NOT desirable — the bringer of past-karma blessings is weakened; "the planet wants to help but its hands are tied." Solution for debilitated trine lord: it is still good for you — wear its gemstone (safe because it is beneficial but weak) or pray during its dasha or during a strong transit of that planet in the current sky. "Pick the timing when the planet is strong — results are more likely."
Neecha Bhanga Raja Yoga — Three Formation Rules, Dusthana Lord Exception & Timing Application
Neecha Bhanga Raja Yoga has three formation methods: (1) Retrogression — debilitated + retrograde = effectively exalted; the Neecha Bhanga is the primary factor overriding the debilitation. (2) Navamsha exaltation — debilitated in Rashi but exalted in Navamsha (D9) = Neecha Bhanga. (3) Kendra placement rule — for a debilitated planet: either the planet that gets exalted in that sign OR the lord of that sign must be in a Kendra (1/4/7/10) from EITHER Lagna or Moon. Example: Mars debilitated in Cancer → Jupiter exalted in Cancer OR Moon owns Cancer; if Jupiter (or Moon) is in a Kendra from Lagna or Moon → Neecha Bhanga for Mars. Critical: "Just being together in Cancer with Mars doesn't count — Jupiter must be in a Kendra from Lagna or Moon." Special consideration for dusthana lords: Neecha Bhanga of a dusthana lord is NOT desirable — the dusthana lord being weak was good (obstacles were weakened); Neecha Bhanga strengthens the obstacle-energy back. "For 8th lord Moon, better off debilitated than having Neecha Bhanga." Neecha Bhanga is most powerful when applied to Kendra or Trikona lords. Debilitated trine lord best remedy: pick the timing when the planet has a strong transit in the current sky and act during that window; its dasha period is the ideal time to pray and strengthen it.
Accusation Houses (10H from Lagna/AL/Moon), Amala Yoga, D10 Ownership vs Occupation & Vipareeta Rules
Accusation and reputation = 10th house (Mana = conduct in society, not popularity which is 5th house). Three references: 10th from Lagna = actual conduct (Rahu here = person actually did something wrong); 10th from AL (Arudha Lagna) = public perception (Rahu here = public scandal, may be false accusation); 10th from Moon = person's own mental relationship with reputation, guilt. Amala Yoga = only natural benefics (no malefics) occupying AND aspecting both the 10th from Lagna AND 10th from Moon = "unblemished reputation; nobody dares to accuse." Moon vs Lagna priority: when Moon has more planets with/aspecting it than Lagna, prioritize Moon as reference ("how his mind looks at things becomes important"); caveat = those planets should be benefics, not malefics. D10 house ownership vs occupation key principle: house owned by a planet = that planet's AGENDA (what it wants to do); house occupied = planet's ASSIGNMENT (resources placed at its command). 2nd lord in 12th = wants to give wealth but resources always flowing away — "wealth in rotation, lot coming and going, but can't fully enjoy." 12th lord in 2nd = planet wants to drain things but given all wealth at its command = wealth drained. D10 primary (not Rashi 10th lord) — Rashi 10th lord is the "seed" for D10 only; actual career karma is D10 chart. 6th lord in 12th = Vipareeta yoga (auspicious); only pure when NO 9th/10th lords are mixed in with the dusthana exchange.
Guru Chandala Yoga Nuances, Parashara's Graha-Devata Map, Saturn+Ketu in 2nd Remedy & Rahu from AL
Guru Chandala Yoga ALWAYS applies when Jupiter+Rahu conjoin — Rahu attacks Jupiter's natural significations (children, dharma, wisdom, religiosity) regardless of functional roles. If they share beneficial house ownership, some cooperation is possible but tension remains. When roles reverse (Jupiter=functional malefic + Rahu=functional benefic), Jupiter misbehaves and Rahu dominates = children/5th house suffer. "Whenever they are together, Rahu dominates unless Jupiter is clearly stronger." Parashara's graha-devata assignments: Sun=Shiva(Rudra); Moon=Parvati; Mars=Skanda(Kumara); Mercury=Vishnu; Jupiter=Sadashiva (Shiva's highest form); Venus=Lakshmi; Saturn=Vishnu(Narayana); Ketu=Ganesha + Matsya (Vishnu avatar). Choosing right form: match the deity form to the specific purpose — Kumar Ganapati for protection from evil forces, not Ganapati Atharvashirsha; Rudra (accessible) for practical relief rather than highest form of Mahakala. Saturn+Ketu in 2nd house (Cancer lagna): both = planets of depletion; 2H = resources, food, speech → combined = food/wealth/speech problems; Shani-Ketu in 2H or 5H = suspect abhichara (black magic). Remedies: Saturn → Vishnu/Narayana + Matsya Avatar; Ketu → Ganesha; combined → Rudra Homam (Mrityunjaya/Shatarudriya) most appropriate. Rahu transit in 8th from AL = sudden setbacks in public image for ~18 months. Rahu transit in 3/6/11 from Moon = decent transit.
BPHS Ch.9 Balarishta Verses 17–30 (Complete), Apoklimas Explanation & Viprit Rajayoga + Dignity
Verses 17–30 completing BPHS Ch.9: (17) Malefics in lagna+7th (2 cumulative) + Moon afflicted without benefic = premature death; (18) Waning Moon in lagna + malefics in 2-3 of the 5 kendra/8th houses = early death (no benefic mitigation mentioned); (19) Moon in Papakartari in 1st/7th/8th/12th = early death; (20) Moon in lagna with Papakartari + malefic in 7th or 8th = danger to child AND mother; (21) Saturn+Sun+Mars in 8/9/12 (any permutation, not respectively) + no benefic aspect = problem; (22) Waning Moon in Vilagna (special longevity lagnas) + malefic in 7th + malefic in lagna Drekkana = problem; (23) ALL planets in Apoklimas (3/6/9/12) + weak = very low longevity. Apoklimas explanation: results come with most difficulty because Apoklimas are quadrants from 9th house = "past-life account already withdrawn." Kendras = middle difficulty (quadrants from lagna = present). Panaparas = easiest (quadrants from 2nd house = future account to be accessed). (24) 3 malefics aspecting Moon without benefic relief = danger to MOTHER. (25) Father dies during pregnancy + Rahu/Mercury/Venus/Sun/Saturn in 2nd house = mother also dies. (26) Moon conjoined malefic + malefic in 6th or 7th from Moon + strong malefic aspects = inauspicious for mother. (27) Sun in 7th in exaltation or debilitation = deprived of mother's milk; separation from mother. (28) Malefic in 4th from Moon in inimical sign + no benefics in kendras from Moon = mother dies. (29) Malefics in 6th+12th = fear for mother; malefics in 4th+10th = fear for father. (30) Malefics in 1st+7th+12th + benefic/Mercury in 2nd = family decay. Viprit Rajayoga: works regardless of planet dignity; exalted planet = MOST dramatic reversal (extreme struggle then extreme triumph); only condition that breaks VRY = other planets joining the dusthana lord (it must be alone).
Baby Chart Analysis (Lawrence MA, Jan 2007) — Maha Yogada (Sun+Mercury in Lagna), 3 Gandanta Planets & Shashtihaini Dasha
Sagittarius lagna baby girl (Jan 6, 2007, 7:26 AM EST, Lawrence MA). Extraordinary strength: Sun + Mercury at 21°51' and 21°24' Sagittarius (< 1/2° apart) in lagna = Dharma-Karma-Adhipati Yoga. Born just after sunrise → Hora Lagna + Ghatika Lagna also in lagna → Sun and Mercury become Yogadas = MAHA YOGADA status. "God bless the child — this Raj yoga is quite strong." Dasha priority: Shashtihaini dasha (Sun in lagna, less probable = more noteworthy) primary over Saptasama (7th lord Mercury in lagna). Critical warning: THREE planets in Gandanta — (1) Mars: in Scorpio-Sagittarius border (worst Gandanta), is Atmakaraka AND dispositor of lagna lord Jupiter AND running dasha lord = most serious; (2) Moon: in Gandanta + Marana Karaka Sthana (8th house); (3) Saturn: retrograde, deeply on the border. Mars-Mars dasha at birth (~4.5 years) = critical first period; Moon dasha following = also problematic (MK Sthana). "Almost the first 10 years are not so good. But after that, excellent." Jupiter (lagna lord) in 12th with Mars: Vargottama + 5L+1L together = Rajyoga; benefic in 12th = "very nice loss — she gives a lot." Multi-divisional: D6+D30 both show Moon+Mars in 8th or 6th (health concern); D20 = very spiritual (8th+12th dominant), Moon aspected by Saturn+Mars = strong vairagya/detachment. D30 element rule: Rahu+Ketu in Libra (water element sign) = blood/water problems possible.
D24 Formal vs Overall Education Seeds (12th vs 4th Lord), Mano B Rashi Analysis & Trilochana Yoga via Parivartana
Two D24 seed approaches: (1) PVNR standard = 12th lord of Rashi placed in D24 → start Narayana Dasha from that sign = OVERALL learning, all knowledge across life; (2) Sanjay Rath approach = 4th lord of Rashi placed in D24 → start ND from that sign = FORMAL education, degrees, school/college specifically. "If you want formal degrees — 4th house. If you want overall intellectual development — 12th house. Both are valid for different purposes." Mano B (Nov 17, 1990, Nidubrolu; Scorpio lagna, Amavasya + Sankranti doshas + Saturn in lagna = three doshas): 9th house has Sun(10L) + Mars(1L=yogakaraka) + Mercury; Mercury has parivartana with Moon (9L in 8H, 8L Moon in 9H); via parivartana Sun+Mars+Moon effectively in Cancer = Trilochana Yoga (Sun+Moon+Mars in mutual trines) = "very powerful; person does great things in that domain." Moon (9th lord) in 8th house = Marana Karaka Sthana + Papakartari (hemmed by all malefics) = very weak; "starting trouble, some anxieties in education — but Sun-Mars dominant combination in 9H overrides." Jupiter exalted in D24 (Mano B): takes Libra as D24 lagna from 4th lord Jupiter; Scorpio dasha running in ND-D24 (fag end). A9+A5+A11 all together in same sign in D24 = "brilliant for education; he is very lucky." Saturn Dasha in D24 = greatest dasha for education (see next topic).
BPHS Ch.10 — Arishtabhanga Complete: 6 Universal Antidotes for All Balarishta Combinations
After 45 Balarishta combinations in Ch.9, Parashara gives compact universal antidotes in Ch.10 (6 verses): (1) Any ONE of Mercury/Jupiter/Venus in a KENDRA from lagna = "destroys ALL evil combinations like sun destroying darkness" — even just one natural benefic in any quadrant neutralizes all balarishta; (2) Strong Jupiter ALONE in lagna = destroys all evil ("like all sins destroyed by prostrating before Shiva") — Jupiter must be "bali" (powerful), not debilitated; (3) Lagna lord (functional benefic par excellence) WELL-PLACED in a kendra (sam-kendrasamstha = quality placement, not just occupancy) = cancels all evil; (4) Shukla Paksha birth + night + benefic aspecting lagna = OR Krishna Paksha birth + day + benefic aspecting lagna = evil cancelled, benefits mother; (5) Malefic in 4th or 10th house WITH Shubhakartari (benefics hemming it from both sides) = good for father — logic: 4th house = 8th from 9th (father's longevity); 10th house = 2nd from 9th (father's Maraka); benefics protecting both ends = father safe; (6) Malefics hemmed by benefics + those benefics are in kendras/trikonas = "very quickly destroys all arishta." If no malefic at all + benefics in kendra/trikona = results even stronger. Note: verses 1-3 together cover both natural benefics (v.1 = all three in kendra, v.2 = Jupiter specifically in lagna) and functional benefic (v.3 = lagna lord in kendra). "A few key planet placements cancel dozens of specific evil combinations — Parashara's elegant design."
BPHS Ch.34 v8-18: Natural Benefics Venus>Jupiter>Mercury>Moon; Malefics Mars>Saturn>Sun>Waning Moon; Kendrajatva Dosha (Benefics Fall by Owning Kendra); Raj Yoga Formation: Exchange>Together in Own House>Conjunction>Mutual Aspect; Raj Yoga Cancelled if 3/6/11 Owned; Rahu/Ketu = House Owners: Judge by Occupancy+Association Not Scorpio/Aquarius
Natural benefic hierarchy (strongest to least): Venus > Jupiter > Mercury > Full Moon. Natural malefic hierarchy (most to least malefic): Mars > Saturn > Sun > Waning Moon. "Mars is the worst malefic planet in terms of inherent nature." Kendrajatva Dosha: natural benefics who own Kendras (1,4,7,10) lose their benefic quality; fall proportional to strength — Venus suffers most, Moon least. "Trikonas = Lakshmi sthanas that give blessings freely; Kendras = Vishnu sthanas = doing, not giving freely or harshly; hence neutral." Raj Yoga formation (Kendra lord + Trikona lord connection): (1) Exchange/Parivartana = most powerful; (2) Together in one of their own houses; (3) Together in a 3rd sign; (4) Full mutual aspect; (5) Partial aspect = weakest but still counts. "Quality depends on how strongly connected; exchange in own house = most powerful." Yogakaraka planet: owns both Kendra+Trikona, OR Kendra lord in Trikona house, OR Trikona lord in Kendra house. Raj Yoga cancellation: if either planet also owns 3rd/6th/11th (Trishadaya), yoga is cancelled. "6th cancels trine (bad cancels good = net neutral); but Kendra + trine = still good (neutral + good = good)." Rahu/Ketu rules: judge by house occupied + planets they associate with; forget Aquarius/Scorpio ownership for functional classification. "Rahu and Ketu are like self-declared owners of wherever they are." Rahu/Ketu as Yogakaraka: if in Kendra or Trikona AND associated with lord of the other type → Yogakaraka. "Even if actual 10th lord is weak, Rahu in 10th with 9th lord association can give good career in Rahu dasha — the planet in the house has its own agency."
BPHS Ch.34 Lagna-Specific Functional Nature: Aries=Mars Benefic+Venus Maraka; Taurus=Saturn Yogakaraka+Jupiter Malefic; Gemini=Venus Only Benefic+Moon Maraka+Jupiter Max Kendrajatva; Cancer=Mars Yogakaraka+Jupiter Benefic(9L)+Venus Malefic(11L); Key: Natural Benefics Can Be Malefic Functionally
Aries lagna: Mars (1L+8L) = benefic (lagna lord = trikona; outweighs 8th); Sun (5L) = excellent trikona benefic; Jupiter (9L+12L) = benefic (9th primary); Moon (4L) = neutral/kendra; Saturn (10L+11L) = malefic (11th taints); Mercury (3L+6L) = doubly malefic; Venus (2L+7L) = clear Maraka (both Maraka houses). "Jupiter+Sun = strongest Raj Yoga for Aries; Jupiter-Saturn yoga weak because Saturn malefic (11L)." Taurus lagna: Saturn (9L+10L) = Yogakaraka (classic trikona+kendra); Sun (4L) = moderate benefic (pure kendra); Mercury (2L+5L) = moderate (5L trikona good; 2L Maraka mixed); Venus (1L+6L) = mixed/malefic-leaning (6L taints lagna lord); Jupiter (8L+11L) = malefic (both negative despite natural beneficence); Moon (3L) = malefic (3rd lord always); Mars (7L+12L) = Maraka. Gemini lagna: Venus (5L+12L) = ONLY functional benefic (5L trikona; 12L vyaya not 3/6/11); Saturn (8L+9L) = neutral/mixed (9L good vs 8L inauspicious cancel out); Moon (2L) = Maraka (primary killer for Gemini); Mars (6L+11L) = doubly malefic; Jupiter (7L+10L) = maximum Kendrajatva dosha (owns two kendras; despite natural beneficence = neutral); Sun (3L) = malefic. Cancer lagna: Mars (5L+10L) = Yogakaraka (trikona+kendra classic); Moon (1L) = benefic (pure lagna lord = trikona); Jupiter (9L+12L) = benefic (9L primary; 12L doesn't override); Mercury (3L+12L) = malefic (3rd lord always); Venus (4L+11L) = malefic (11L taints; 4L kendra neutral → 11L dominates); Saturn (7L+8L) = malefic/Maraka (7L + 8L both negative); Sun (2L) = judge by sahachara (2L=Maraka technically but Sun's natural soul-quality = use sahachara rule). Key insight: "Jupiter is malefic for Taurus and highly neutralized for Gemini; Venus is malefic for Cancer — natural benefics become functional malefics when owning 3/6/11."
BPHS Ch.34 Leo/Virgo/Libra/Scorpio: Leo=Mars+Sun+Jupiter Benefic; Virgo=Venus ONLY Benefic+Moon Worst Malefic; Libra=Jupiter+Sun Malefic+Mars Maraka+Moon-Mercury Raj Yoga; Scorpio=Moon Clear Benefic+Moon-Sun Yogakaraka; KEY: "Jeevadhyaha Papa"=Functional Malefics Kill, NOT Natural; Saturn NOT Primary Maraka for Libra
Leo lagna: Mars (4L+9L) = benefic (9L trikona + 4L kendra neutral for malefics); Sun (1L) = pure benefic; Jupiter (5L+8L) = benefic (5L trikona + karakatva overrides 8L); Saturn (6L+7L) = clear Maraka (natural enemy of Sun + 6th+7th); Venus (3L+10L) = malefic (3L always malefic); Mercury (2L+11L) = malefic (11L dominates). "Jupiter+Venus NOT reliable Raj Yoga for Leo — they are enemies; Jupiter as 8th lord is unreliable." Virgo lagna: Mercury+Venus = the ONLY Raj Yoga pair ("Bhargavendu sutaa bhavetaam yogarkau"); Moon (11L) = WORST malefic; Jupiter (4L+7L) = maximum Kendrajatva (two kendras, no trikona = clear neutral/weak); Venus = simultaneously Yogakaraka (9L) AND Maraka (2L) — "these two coexist." Saturn (5L+6L) = neutral (trikona vs malefic cancel; Parashara doesn't mention him). Libra lagna: Jupiter (3L+6L) = doubly malefic; Sun (11L) = malefic; Mars (2L+7L) = primary Maraka (double Maraka); Saturn (4L+5L) = benefic (5L trikona); Moon+Mercury = Yogakaraka pair (10L kendra + 9L trikona). Critical teaching: "Parashara says jeevadhyaha papa = functional malefics become Maraka when in/aspecting 2nd/7th — NOT natural malefics like Saturn/Mars; for Libra, Jupiter+Sun (functional papa) are the Maraka, not Saturn/Mars as modern texts claim." Scorpio lagna: Moon (9L) = clear benefic (pure trikona); Sun+Moon = Yogakaraka pair (10L+9L); Mercury (8L+11L) = malefic (11L dominates); Saturn (3L+4L) = malefic (3L dominates); Venus (7L+12L) = malefic; Jupiter (2L+5L) = benefic but potential Maraka (5L trikona character usually dominates; unlikely to kill as primary function). "Parashara's approach is much more fluid and chart-dependent than all modern texts I have seen — sahachara rule for 2/8/12 lords and Kendrajatva rule make this dynamic."
BPHS Ch.34 Sagittarius/Capricorn/Aquarius/Pisces: Sag=Sun+Mars Benefic+Saturn Maraka; Cap=Venus Yogakaraka+Moon Malefic(Karka=Lord=Extreme Desire); Aqu=Venus Yogakaraka+Moon 6L Worst Malefic; Pisces=Mars+Jupiter Raj Yoga+Mars Won't Kill; Three House Categories: Trikona=Lakshmi Blessings, Kendra=Vishnu Effort, 3/6/11=Struggle; Closing: Yogas Override Base Classification
Sagittarius lagna: Venus (6L+11L) = only functional malefic (doubly malefic); Mars (5L+12L) = benefic (5L trikona primary); Sun (9L) = clear benefic (pure trikona lord); Jupiter (1L+4L) = neutral (Kendrajatva reduces lagna lord benefit); Saturn = primary Maraka (2L+3L; "nihanta bhaskarat malaha = clearly Saturn is Maraka"); Sun+Mercury = Raj Yoga pair (9L+10L). Capricorn lagna: Venus (5L+10L) = Yogakaraka (trikona+kendra); Mercury (6L+9L) = qualified benefic (friend of Saturn tips toward benefic); Moon (7L) = malefic — special teaching: "Moon is the karaka of 7th house (desires); when karaka ALSO owns that same house, results are maximal to the point of extremity; Moon as 7th lord = overwhelmingly strong desires = malefic quality"; Mars (4L+11L) = malefic (11L dominates); Jupiter (3L+12L) = malefic (3L dominates); Saturn (1L+2L) = "not a killer by himself; lagna lordship protects." Aquarius lagna: Venus (4L+9L) = Yogakaraka (classic kendra+trikona); Moon (6L) = worst malefic (unambiguous); Jupiter (2L+11L) = malefic (11L + enemy of Saturn); Mars (3L+10L) = malefic (3L dominates). Pisces lagna: Mars (2L+9L) = benefic (9L primary); Moon (5L) = clear benefic; Jupiter (1L+10L) = neutral; Saturn (11L+12L) = malefic + primary killer; Mercury (4L+7L) = malefic (double Kendra = maximum Kendrajatva; also can kill as 7th lord); Mars+Jupiter = Raj Yoga pair (9L+10L, friends); special: "Mars as 2nd lord is technical Maraka but won't kill — benefic + friend of lagna lord protects him from killing function." Three house categories: Trikona (1/5/9) = Lakshmi sthanas (blessings come from past punya, no effort needed); Kendra (4/7/10) = Vishnu sthanas (effort required but flows; neither blessing nor struggle); 3/6/11 = struggle houses ("you must work hard, fight, desire intensely — even when the end result is good, the process is malefic"). Closing: "Parashara says: other yogas in coming chapters can MODIFY or OVERRIDE this house-based classification; you must combine both frameworks."
BPHS Ch.35 Nabhasa Yogas (32 Sky-Pattern Yogas): Asraya=Raju(All Chara)+Musala(All Sthira)+Nala(All Dvisva); Dala=Mala(Benefics in 3 Kendras)+Sarpa(Malefics in 3 Kendras); Akriti=20 Shape Yogas (Gada/Sakata/Vihanga/Sringataka/Hala/Vajra/Yava/Kamala/Vapi+11 more); Sankhya=7 Number Yogas (Vallaki=7H to Gola=1H); Priority: Asraya>Dala>Akriti>Sankhya
Nabhasa yogas = "sky patterns" — formed purely by zodiacal sign positions of 7 classical planets in D1 only; no dignity/strength consideration; 32 yogas with 1800 variations. Four types: (1) Asraya (3) — sign modality: Raju = all planets in Chara (movable = Aries/Cancer/Libra/Capricorn) = constant travel, relocation; Musala = all in Sthira (fixed = Taurus/Leo/Scorpio/Aquarius) = perseverance, immovability, deep roots; Nala = all in Dvisva (dual = Gemini/Virgo/Sag/Pisces) = channel/transmitter, versatile, mediator. (2) Dala (2) — Mala = natural benefics in 3 Kendras (4/7/10) = garland; blessed in home/marriage/career environments; Sarpa = natural malefics in 3 Kendras = snake bites; difficult environments in key areas ("not destruction — life bites back; strong lagna lord can still navigate"). (3) Akriti (20) — shapes: Gada (2 consecutive Kendras = mace; concentrated power); Sakata (1st+7th = wheel; self-other axis revolves); Vihanga (4th+10th = bird; spans private to public life; "10th = midday sky, 4th = Patala underworld; bird traverses full vertical axis"); Sringataka (1/5/9 = three peaks; trikona emphasis; fortune and purva punya dominate); Hala (3/7/11 = plow; must labor hard; persistent striving); Vajra (benefics 1+7, malefics 4+10 = good birth/death, hard middle); Yava (malefics 1+7, benefics 4+10 = good middle, hard beginning/end); Kamala (all 4 Kendras = lotus; all-directional strength); Vapi (3/6/11 = reservoir; slow upachaya accumulation); Yupa/Sara/Shakti/Danda (consecutive half-charts 1-4/4-7/7-10/10-1); Nauka/Kutha (first/second half of chart); Chakra/Samudra (alternating houses). (4) Sankhya (7) — occupied houses count: Vallaki=7 houses (veena; harmonious, diverse), Dama=6 (cord; moderate), Pasha=5 (noose; entangled), Kedara=4 (field; hard-working), Shola=3 (thorn; specialized), Yuga=2 (yoke; paired), Gola=1 (ball; maximum concentration, no breadth). Priority when multiple co-present: Asraya > Dala > Akriti > Sankhya. "Nabhasa yogas give background texture — they modify but don't override Ch.34 functional benefic/malefic rules."
BPHS Ch.35 Akriti Completion: 4-Sign Weapon Yogas — Yupa(1H=Personality), Sara(4H=Arrow Focus), Shakti(7H=Go-Getter People), Danda(10H=Karmayogi Persistence); 7-Sign Support — Nauka(4H Center=Clarity), Kuta(7H=People Gang), Chhatra(10H=Status Umbrella), Chapa(1H=Character Foundation); Chakra(Odd Houses=11H Culminates=Cycle of Gaining); Samudra(Even Houses=12H=Ocean Giver)
4-sign Weapon Akriti yogas (all planets in 4 consecutive houses from a Kendra): Yupa (1-4, starting 1st) = "personality itself carries you; who you are accomplishes what others need weapons for"; Sara (4-7, starting 4th) = arrow = "knows exactly what to hit; precision aim; like an archer with good aim"; Shakti (7-10, starting 7th) = spear = "go-getter; serious intention; interacts with people to get things done" (medium-range weapon); Danda (10-1, starting 10th) = staff = "Karmayogi; patient persistence; just keeps executing until done" (close combat, keeps hitting). Key: starting Kendra house determines primary theme. 7-sign Support yogas (all planets in 7 consecutive houses): Nauka (1-7, center=4th) = ship = "clarity of direction keeps you afloat; if direction is clear you don't sink"; Kuta (4-10, center=7th) = gang = "people support you; PR and interactions sustain you; surrounded by supportive network"; Chhatra (7-1, center=10th) = umbrella = "protected by status and authority; sign of position; Chhatrapati — not just shade but symbol of power"; Chapa/Kapha (10-4, center=1st) = bow/arch = "character of person supports everything; foundational personality sustains all of life." Key: center (middle) house determines primary theme. Alternating sign yogas: Chakra = all planets in odd houses (1/3/5/7/9/11) = culminates in 11th = "wheel going round; life is cycle of wanting more and gaining more; materialistic cycle of desire and fulfillment"; Samudra = all planets in even houses (2/4/6/8/10/12) = culminates in 12th = "ocean; magnanimous giver; vast; wealth may come but is given away; culminates in liberation/giving." Key: last house in pattern determines primary theme. "One is in the cycle of gaining; the other in the cycle of magnanimous giving — two very different orientations."
