Most compatibility tools give you a 36-point Ashtakoota number and stop there. This one treats gun milan as only the first layer. What compatibility score is considered good?
On the unified 0–100 scale, above 60 is a comfortable match and above 75 is strong. But the number is a summary of five different layers — a high Ashtakoota score with a weak D9 7th is not the same as a moderate score that is sound across every layer. The breakdown matters more than the single figure.
How is this different from a 36-point gun milan?
The 36-point Ashtakoota is only the first of the five layers here. Traditional Parāśara practice treats gun milan as a preliminary filter, not a verdict — a couple can score well on nakshatra kootas and still have a difficult Upapada Lagna or D9 7th. This tool combines all five layers into one score so the nakshatra count cannot override the deeper marriage indicators.
Is a high Ashtakoota score enough on its own?
No. A high gun-milan score with an afflicted 7th house, a weak Navāṁśa, or an unbalanced Manglik position can still make for a hard marriage. Conversely, a moderate Ashtakoota with strong UL, D9 and personality fit is often a better match than the raw score suggests. That is exactly why the score is built from five layers rather than one.
Do I need exact birth times for both people?
The Ashtakoota layer needs only the Moon sign, which is stable even with an approximate time. The UL, D9 7th and Manglik layers are Lagna-based, so a birth time accurate within a couple of hours makes those layers reliable. A rough time still gives a useful score; a precise one sharpens it.
