Student Chart — D2 Hora Financial Analysis, Viparita Raja Yoga & Ghatika Lagna in D2

The same student's finances from the Narayana Dasha of the Hora chart. A trine dasha brings money easily, a quadrant brings it with effort, the 3rd, 6th and 8th mean swimming against the stream, and the 8th from Arudha Lagna is a sudden change of status. Sagittarius dasha was a sudden rise; Taurus brought setbacks because the 10th and 12th lords exchange signs (a duryoga); Libra, the 3rd with exalted Saturn, is tight until 2007, best from 2007 to 2010, and weak after. Viparita Raja Yoga is extended to the 3rd house, with the reason. Investment is read from the Upapada, not the 12th house; Ghatika Lagna in D-2 is financial influence. The page ends with Devalokamsa and the choice between Lagna and Moon Vimshottari.

Key principle

Trines will show blessings, the fruits you reap because of the blessing. Quadrants will show the effort that you have to put.

Natal chart. The class reads a twelve-sign Hora chart that the site's D-2 does not reproduce: Leo lagna with Sun (LL), Mars (9L) and Mercury; Saturn exalted in Libra (3H) with A11; Moon in Taurus (10H) in Arudha Lagna, exchanging signs with Venus in Cancer (12H); UL and A5 in Pisces (8H, the 11th from AL). Use the rasi chart for the last two parts: Saturn at 0°54′ Libra is the 7L in the 4H — a quadrant lord in a quadrant, in Devalokamsa.

D2 Hora Financial Analysis

The Narayana Dasha of the Horā chart shows the overall financial situation.

The Horā chart used in class

The teacher's D-2 is a twelve-sign horā (the placements follow the Kāśīnātha rule). The site's D-2 is a different horā and does not show these placements.

  • Lagna Leo with Sun (lagna lord), Mars (4th and 9th lord) and Mercury.
  • Jupiter in Virgo (2nd). Saturn exalted in Libra (3rd). Rahu in Capricorn (6th). Moon exalted in Taurus (10th). Venus and Ketu in Cancer (12th).
  • Ārūḍha Lagna in Taurus. A11 in Libra. UL and A5 in Pisces.

How to judge a daśā

Look at the house from lagna, the house from Ārūḍha Lagna (the financial status), the lord, the occupants and aspectors, and the ārūḍha padas in the sign — the padas are the tangible results.

  • Trine daśā: blessings. Money works out easily — not without work, but easily.
  • Quadrant daśā: effort, and things come.
  • 3rd, 6th, 8th: a lot of effort for things to come. Swimming against the stream.
  • 8th from Ārūḍha Lagna: a sudden change in financial status. A benefic there, or a benefic sign → sudden rise. A malefic there → sudden loss of everything.
    • Signs owned by benefics are benefic signs; signs owned by malefics are malefic signs.
    • With a malefic in the 8th from AL in the Horā chart giving its results now: do not gamble.

The three daśās

DashaPeriodReading
Sagittarius1993 – 20025th from lagna: earning ability put to use; a trine, so things come easily. 8th from AL and a benefic sign: sudden rise in financial status. Lord Jupiter well placed from lagna and from AL. A very good period: things came easily, with sudden growth in status
Taurus2002 – Aug 200410th from lagna: he has to manage and put in effort for money. 1st from AL: a new beginning in financial status. But the lord Venus is in the 12th from lagna and the 3rd from AL, and exchanges signs with Moon in Taurus: 10th lord ↔ 12th lord = Duryoga. Setbacks in these two years
Librafrom Aug 2004See below

Parivartana of the 10th lord: with the 9th or 5th lord it is a rāja yoga. With the 6th, 8th or 12th lord it is a duryoga — a bad yoga.

Libra daśā

  • 3rd house: worse than a quadrant for ease. He swims against the stream.
  • But a malefic is there, and then he has the energy and initiative for it and enjoys it. Without a malefic the 3rd would be harder.
  • Saturn is exalted there → a lot of initiative in this period, where the previous one may have had little.
  • Saturn owns the 6th and 7th. The 6th is the stronger, because it holds a planet and the 7th is empty. 6th lord in the 3rd → like a Viparīta Rāja Yoga (Part 14).
  • A11 is in Libra: the actual, tangible gains — money deposited in the bank account.
  • Lord Venus is in the 12th, a functional malefic in this chart. He shows financial pressure, not comfort.
  • Sun, the Kāryeśa (2nd lord of the rāśi chart), aspects Libra by rāśi dṛṣṭi from Leo, and so does Mars. Lagna lord + 9th lord together in lagna is a rāja yoga and a protection.

Libra is śīrṣodaya; Venus is in Cancer, pṛṣṭhodaya:

One-thirdPeriodReading
1st — the signAug 2004 – Sep 20073rd from lagna, and a benefic sign in the 6th from AL — not auspicious. Finances a little tight; hard work to make them secure again. Some heartburn, but things stay on track. Money does come (A11)
Middle — occupants and aspectorsSep 2007 – Aug 2010Saturn's vigour, and the Sun–Mars rāja yoga aspecting Libra. Happiness, protection, fortune. The best part
Last — the lordafter Aug 2010Venus in the 12th: loss of money, or giving it to spiritual causes. Guard against complacency. Materially not so bright

Do the D-10 and the D-2 agree? (a student's question)

D-10 gives recognition in 2010–2011. D-2 gives a weak last one-third from August 2010.

  • They need not correlate. Then you make a judgement.
  • The 12th need not be losing money. A man may be earning more after a promotion and spending more on charitable causes in the same period.

Remedies — Which Deity for Mars

In the Horā chart Mars is the 9th lord in a friend's house, giving a rāja yoga in lagna with the lagna lord.

  • A strong 9th lord in a friend's house giving a good yoga is a protection. Even in big setbacks he will not have to struggle or panic; somehow his finances are always protected.
  • Pray to Hanuman: he safeguards the financial situation. "You will not have to beg." Even when things are tight there will be enough to manage.

Why Hanuman and not Narasimha? (a student's question)

Seen with MarsThe teacher goes with
Mercury and SunHanuman
Rahu or KetuSubrahmaṇya
SaturnNarasimha
  • Any of them will do. It is all Mars in the end: whoever you pray to has to speak to Mars, and Mars gives the result.
  • Other choices for Mars: Bagalāmukhī, one of the Daśa Mahāvidyās — Añjanā Devī, the mother of Hanuman, is considered her incarnation; any ugra devatā; Rudra alone (the Rudra Namakam).

UL in D2 — Investment Logic

A student asked whether the 12th-house results of Venus could be an investment.

Tangible or intangible

  • The feeling of giving, the feeling of having lost an opportunity or some money: intangible.
  • $2,000 actually put into a company's stock: tangible. There is a paper, or an entry in an account. The world can see it.

"Intangibles are from houses and tangibles are always from Arudha Pada. Remember that basic rule."

  • Investing is letting money go. Letting go is the 12th house. Its ārūḍha is the Upapada (UL): loss, investment, giving up — all tangible, all from UL.
  • The 12th house itself is only the feeling: feeling like giving, feeling like investing, feeling at a loss, feeling tight. The 12th house is not investment. Its ārūḍha is.
  • UL means spouse in the rāśi chart and Navāṁśa. In D-10 it is loss in career; in the Horā chart, loss in the financial situation.

Loss or investment?

  • Look at the house UL is in.
  • Ramakrishna Dalmia: UL in the 5th, with Mercury in it. The 5th is ability. He uses his ability to lose money — and that is an investment.
  • Ability is an intangible (a house); the money let go is a tangible (the pada). Blend the two and you get an investment.

The student's Horā chart

  • UL in the 8th house — the house of suddenness. He invests, gives in charity or lets money go on an impulse, without thinking it over for long.
  • UL in the 11th from Ārūḍha Lagna — letting money go can bring him a gain; at the least, the world will think he is gaining.
  • A5 is with UL. A5 is ability as the world sees it. His investments are seen by the world as good and capable ones. Such a person does not make risky investments. Advise safe, well-known companies where money grows slowly — not a startup or a new IPO.
  • Actual profit is A11 (a student's point, accepted). UL in the 11th from AL only makes the world think he is making money: "he put money in Microsoft, so he did well" — but he may not have sold at the right time.
    • For investments to make money there must be a link between A11 and UL: in the same house, or the lord of one aspecting or occupying the other. The gain comes when the linking planet gives its results.
    • Here there is no link. Do not expect much from his investments.
  • Gains do come in the first one-third of Libra daśā — Libra holds A11 — but through hard work. It is not a good period for investment: hold on to the money.

Ghatika Lagna (GL) in D2 Financial Chart

  • Ghāṭikā Lagna is power and authority. In the Horā chart it is the influence a person has in society in financial matters.
  • Ramakrishna Dalmia: the Kāryeśa — the 2nd lord of the rāśi chart — was in GL, and in UL. A very influential man in financial life.
  • A successful, influential businessman running the daśā of the 12th or 8th house from GL loses influence: expect setbacks that reduce it.

The Horā Chart of the Tithi Praveśa Years, and Viparīta Rāja Yoga with the 3rd House

A quick overall reading of a year's finances: take the Hora Lord in the Horā chart of the Tithi Praveśa. The houses he owns and occupies set the theme. Never ignore Ārūḍha Lagna.

2004 (the year running)

  • Hora Lord Moon: exalted, in Ghāṭikā Lagna — but in the 12th from lagna. A year of tightness, not of fortune.
  • From Ārūḍha Lagna he is in the 8th: tightness, anxiety, trouble. The world sees him in financial difficulty.
  • Also in this chart: Jupiter, the bādhaka lord, is in lagna; the lagna lord Mercury is in the 3rd; the Kāryeśa Venus is in the 2nd.

2005

  • Hora Lord Mercury owns lagna and the 4th. As lagna lord he gives a new beginning in financial life: the tightness goes because a steady stream of money starts; a budget kept because money was drying up can be relaxed.
  • He is in the 3rd, a good house, with the Sun in the Sun's own house. In financial matters the Sun and Moon are the givers, and the Sun gives in bounty. Access to the Sun: knowing influential people and getting money through them.
  • From Ārūḍha Lagna he is in the 11th: the world will see him gaining.
  • Venus (5th lord) and Jupiter (10th lord) are conjoined — a rāja yoga.
  • A good year.

2006

  • Hora Lord Moon is the 12th lord in the 3rd, a malefic lord in a malefic house → like a Viparīta Rāja Yoga.
  • Moon and Venus exchange signs: 3rd lord ↔ 12th lord, a good parivartana. It shows going from one extreme to the other.
  • From Ārūḍha Lagna Moon is in the 5th, a good house for any planet.
  • Also a very good year.

The rule

  • Normally: 6th, 8th and 12th lords in one another's houses, or exchanging, give Viparīta Rāja Yoga. The 3rd is included as well.
  • 6th lord Saturn in the 3rd of the natal Horā chart was read the same way.
  • Parivartana of 3rd and 12th, 3rd and 6th, 6th and 12th lords: good. The natal Moon–Venus parivartana was 10th ↔ 12th — a quadrant lord with a bad lord — and that is a duryoga.

Why the 3rd and not the 11th? (a student's question: 3, 6 and 11 are the good houses for malefics)

  • For Viparīta Rāja Yoga the 11th is not included. It is 3, 6, 8 and 12.
  • The 3rd is the house of having to work hard. The planet who gives losses, made to work hard, cannot give losses easily.
  • The 6th is the house of obstacles. The planet who gives anxiety, placed among obstacles, meets obstacles in giving it.

"This is a very low-level, crude logic. I am sure there is something more subtle that I don't understand yet."

The advice to the student

  • June is favourable; the class is more hopeful of September–November. The 11 months after August 2005 are very favourable.
  • Look for quality control, device verification, system verification.

Vaiseshikamsa (Devaloka) — Spiritual Significance

A student noticed Saturn in the same sign in many vargas of the natal chart.

  • A planet in the same sign in two vargas is not important unless the two are rāśi and Navāṁśa (vargottama). In D-2 especially it is likely to fall in the same sign.
  • But Saturn here is at the very beginning of Libra, and is in his exaltation or own sign in 7 of the 10 vargas → Devalokāṁśa in the Vaiśeṣikāṁśa scheme.
  • A quadrant lord in a quadrant in Devalokāṁśa: the person is of the calibre of a ṛṣi. Saturn is the 7th lord in the 4th of the rāśi chart.
  • "In Kali Yuga take everything with a pinch of salt": not a ṛṣi, but a high spiritual calibre, and very good karma done in society.
  • This is not from the financial or career point of view.
  • It shows in Saturn's daśā — by Moon Vimśottarī Saturn daśā begins in 2005 — a very good daśā for spirituality.

Lagna vs. Moon Vimshottari — When to Use Which

In the same chart the birth star has 3 planets in quadrants and the lagna's nakṣatra has 4. With Lagna Vimśottarī the daśās change and Saturn's is not the one coming.

ChartRule
Mundane (lunar or solar New Year chart of a country)If lagna is even marginally stronger than Moon, use only Lagna Vimśottarī
A human being and his fortuneGive priority to Moon Vimśottarī as far as possible. With lagna marginally stronger, Moon Vimśottarī may still work better
A human chart where lagna is much strongerLagna Vimśottarī dominates
  • For most people Moon Vimśottarī is the best.
  • Strength = planets in quadrants from the nakṣatra. The teacher's software lists the count under "Vimshottari seed strength comparison".
  • Homework for the student: test both against his own events — when he started the job, when he lost it, the long period out of work, when he came to the US.

"The proof is in the pudding. If you try it, if it works, then it works."
