1. Scope of this Policy
This Privacy Policy and Terms of Use apply to all Parasara Jyotish products operated by us ("we", "us", "our"): • The web application at parasara.net • The Parasara Android app published on Google Play • The Parasara iOS app published on the Apple App Store By using any of these products you agree to this policy. If you do not agree, please stop using the service.
2. Information We Collect
We collect only what is necessary to deliver astrological calculations, interpretations, and account features. A. Information you provide • Birth details — date, time, place — required to compute Vedic charts. On mobile, charts you save are stored on your device and synced to your account when you sign in. On the web, birth details are processed in your browser unless you save them to your account. • Account profile — when you sign in with Google we receive your name, email address, profile photo, and a unique Google user ID. This creates a Firebase Authentication account managed in Google Cloud. • Community content — comments, votes, feedback, and any questions you submit via the AI Q&A or chat features. • Payment details — when you purchase Premium, Razorpay processes your card or UPI details directly. We never see or store your card number. We retain only the Razorpay order ID, payment ID, amount, currency, and country code. B. Information collected automatically • Device information — device model, operating system version, app version, locale, and time zone for compatibility and crash diagnostics. • Usage data — which screens you open, taps, session length, and feature usage, collected via Firebase Analytics to improve the product. • Approximate location — derived from your IP address by our server during payment to show local-currency pricing. We do not use precise GPS for pricing. • Location permission (mobile only) — if you grant location permission, your coordinates are used solely to compute your daily Tithi Praveśa rising chart. Coordinates are not transmitted to our servers. • Crash and error logs — to identify and fix bugs.
3. How We Use Your Information
We use the information described above to: • Generate your Vedic chart, divisional charts, dashas, yogas, transits, and prediction reports • Maintain your account, save charts to your profile, and sync state across devices • Process payments and grant subscription entitlements • Provide AI-powered question answering and chat interpretations • Send push notifications you have subscribed to (daily insights, transit alerts) • Show ads to free-plan users (mobile apps only) • Detect, prevent, and respond to fraud, abuse, and security incidents • Improve the product through anonymized usage analytics
4. Third-Party Services We Use
We rely on the following service providers. Each has its own privacy policy and may collect data directly from your device. • Google Firebase — Authentication, Firestore database, Cloud Messaging (push notifications), Analytics, Crashlytics, and Hosting. (Google Privacy Policy) • Google AdMob — serves ads in the mobile app to free-plan users. AdMob may use the advertising ID for personalisation. You can opt out in your device settings. (Google AdMob Privacy) • Google Maps Platform — used for birth-place autocomplete and geocoding. (Google Maps Privacy) • Razorpay — payment processing for premium subscriptions. Card and UPI details are entered directly into Razorpay's checkout and never reach our servers. (Razorpay Privacy Policy) • OpenAI and Anthropic — AI providers for the Q&A and chat features. Your question text and chart digest are sent to these providers to generate the answer. Do not include sensitive personal data in questions. (OpenAI and Anthropic privacy policies) • ipapi.co — IP-based country lookup during payment to display local-currency pricing. • Apple App Store and Google Play — receipt validation for any legacy in-app purchases. We do not sell or rent your personal data to advertisers or any third party.
5. Subscriptions, Pricing & Refunds
A. Premium plan Parasara Premium is a one-time lifetime purchase that unlocks all reports and removes ads. There is no automatic renewal. The price is determined by your country of residence at the time of purchase, detected from your IP address. Once activated, your Premium entitlement is permanent on your account and applies across the web, Android, and iOS apps that share the same Google sign-in. B. Local-currency pricing We offer regional pricing in over 40 currencies. The price you see is the price you pay. We do not add markups; the exact amount in your local currency is charged by Razorpay. C. No refunds All purchases are final and non-refundable. Because Premium content (reports, AI features, ad-free experience) is delivered immediately upon successful payment, we do not offer refunds for change of mind, accidental purchase, or dissatisfaction with the astrological interpretations. Exceptions: if a duplicate charge occurs due to a technical error, or if Premium does not activate within 24 hours of a successful payment, contact us at support@parasara.net with your Razorpay payment ID and we will investigate and resolve the issue (refund or manual activation). D. Payment failures If your payment fails, no charge is made. If your payment succeeds but your Premium does not activate (rare), contact us with the Razorpay payment ID — we have an internal admin tool to manually verify and credit your account. E. Legacy purchasers Users who previously purchased Premium via Google Play before our move to web-based payment retain their Premium permanently. Their entitlement is migrated to their account the first time they sign in with Google. F. Taxes Prices include any applicable GST / VAT / sales tax where required by Razorpay for the buyer's country.
6. Community & User-Generated Content
You may post comments, vote on posts, and contribute feedback within our community features. By posting, you grant us a non-exclusive licence to display your content within the app. You must not post content that is unlawful, hateful, defamatory, sexually explicit, infringing, or that harasses other users. We may remove content and suspend accounts that violate these guidelines without notice. Anonymous moderation tools allow us to ban abusive users; ban records are stored against your account UID.
7. Advertising
Free-plan users of the Android and iOS apps see ads served by Google AdMob. We do not show ads on the web app. AdMob may use your device advertising ID (AAID on Android, IDFA on iOS) and approximate IP-based location to serve personalised ads. You can: • Reset or limit your advertising ID in your device's privacy settings • On iOS, decline App Tracking Transparency when prompted (you will still see ads, but they will not be personalised) • Purchase Parasara Premium to remove all ads permanently We do not share your account details (email, name, birth data) with AdMob.
8. AI-Generated Content & Q&A
Our AI features (chat, Q&A, prediction summaries) are powered by OpenAI and Anthropic language models. When you ask a question: • Your question text, chart digest (planetary positions, dashas, etc.), and recent conversation history are sent to the AI provider • The AI provider processes your request and returns an answer • Per provider policies, your data is not used to train future models AI-generated interpretations are computed analyses and may contain errors or generalisations. They are intended for educational and self-reflection purposes only. Do not rely on AI-generated astrological output for medical, legal, financial, or other professional decisions.
9. Data Storage & Security
Account and subscription data are stored in Google Firestore on Google Cloud infrastructure (default-db database in the parasarajyotish project). Firestore enforces server-side security rules that prevent any user from reading or writing another user's data. Authentication tokens are managed by Firebase Authentication and stored securely on your device (Keychain on iOS, EncryptedSharedPreferences on Android, HTTP-only cookies on web). We use HTTPS for all communications with our servers. Payment processing happens directly between your browser and Razorpay over an encrypted connection; we never see or store raw payment credentials. No internet service can guarantee absolute security. You are responsible for keeping your Google account credentials safe.
10. Data Retention
• Account data — kept while your account exists • Birth charts — kept while saved by you; you can delete any chart from the app • Subscription records — kept indefinitely for legal and accounting purposes • Community content — kept until you delete it or your account is deleted • Analytics — anonymised and aggregated; raw events typically retained 14 months • Payment records — kept for a minimum of seven years to comply with Indian tax and accounting law • Crash logs — retained 90 days
11. Your Rights
You have the right to: • Access — request a copy of the personal data we hold about you • Correct — update any inaccurate information in your account settings • Delete — request deletion of your account and all associated data (subscription records may be retained for legal compliance; see Section 10) • Withdraw consent — sign out of Google and disable notifications or location at any time • Export — request an export of your saved charts and account data • Object — to certain processing activities, including personalised advertising To exercise any of these rights, email support@parasara.net from the address associated with your account. We will respond within 30 days. We respond to legitimate requests under the EU GDPR, UK GDPR, California CCPA / CPRA, and India DPDP Act 2023.
12. Children's Privacy
Parasara is intended for users aged 13 and older. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided personal data to us, contact us and we will delete the data and account promptly. Some interpretations and questions in the app are designed for adult life topics (career, marriage, finance, longevity). Parental discretion is advised for users between 13 and 17.
13. International Users
Parasara is operated from India. By using the service from outside India, you consent to the transfer of your data to India and other countries where our service providers (such as Google Cloud regions) operate. We rely on Standard Contractual Clauses and equivalent transfer mechanisms where required.
14. Disclaimer of Warranties
Parasara is provided "as is" for educational and self-reflection purposes only. Astrological computations and interpretations are based on classical Vedic astrology texts (primarily the Brihat Parāśara Horā Śāstra and works by P. V. R. Narasimha Rao). We make no warranty about: • The accuracy of any astrological interpretation • The suitability of the service for any particular purpose • Outcomes of any decisions you make based on the content The service does not constitute medical, legal, financial, psychological, or any other professional advice. Always consult a qualified professional for matters of health, law, finance, or wellbeing.
15. Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, in no event shall Parasara Jyotish, its operators, or contributors be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of profits or revenues, whether incurred directly or indirectly, arising from your use of the service. Our total liability to you for any claim arising out of or relating to this policy or the service is limited to the amount you paid for Premium in the twelve months preceding the claim, or one hundred Indian rupees, whichever is greater.
16. Termination
You may stop using the service at any time and request account deletion. We may suspend or terminate your account at any time, with or without notice, if you violate the community guidelines, attempt to abuse the service, or use it for any unlawful purpose. Terminated accounts forfeit any unused features without refund.
17. Changes to this Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy and Terms from time to time. The "Effective" date at the top reflects the latest revision. Material changes will be announced via in-app notice or push notification at least seven days before they take effect. Your continued use of the service after a policy update constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
18. Governing Law & Jurisdiction
This Privacy Policy and Terms are governed by the laws of India. Any disputes shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of West Bengal, India.
