Follow the business model and the paywall becomes predictable
Consultation marketplaces (AstroTalk, InstaAstro) sell human minutes. Their free tier is designed to be engaging and shallow — a daily horoscope, a basic chart, a compatibility percentage — because depth in the free tier removes the reason to pay for a conversation. Expect the wall right where a real question starts.
Report sellers (ClickAstro, Astro-Vision) sell documents. Their free tier is a chart plus a sample section, because the product is the full PDF.
Ad-supported portals (AstroSage, Prokerala) sell attention. Their free tiers are genuinely deep, because more free tools means more pages and more sessions. This is why the broadest free calculation on the web sits on ad-funded portals.
Desktop software (Jagannatha Hora) has no business model at all in the usual sense — it is free and complete, with nothing above it.
We sell one flat unlock for interpretation depth. So there is no reason to withhold the chart itself, and we do not: sixteen vargas, four daśā systems, 300+ yogas and the daily, monthly and yearly readings are free. The unlock covers the long life reports and the chart-specific Q&A.

Five things to check before trusting any free kundli
These take a minute each and eliminate most of the bad output in this category.
Does it ask for birth time to the minute?
A tool that accepts only a date cannot produce an Ascendant, and without an Ascendant there are no houses. Anything built on houses — career, marriage, wealth — is then guesswork wearing technical clothing.
Does it resolve your birth place to real coordinates?
A city name is not enough on its own; latitude, longitude and the correct historical timezone offset all matter. India’s half-hour offset and older regional time conventions catch out sloppy implementations.
Which ayanāṁśa does it use?
Lahiri is standard for Parāśara work. If a tool will not say, or silently uses tropical values with Sanskrit labels, its rāśis may be a full sign off.
Does the daśā balance look computed?
Your first mahādaśā should start partway through — a fraction reflecting how far the Moon had already travelled through its nakshatra at birth. If it starts neatly at zero, something is wrong.
Does it ever say two things conflict?
Real charts contradict themselves constantly. A report that reads uniformly positive, or uniformly grim, is printing templates rather than reading a chart.
Worth knowing
If you want the most free, in order
Jagannatha Hora gives away the most computation of anything in existence, if you are on Windows and can read raw tables. AstroSage gives away the most in a browser across the widest range of systems. Prokerala gives the fastest clean chart in five languages. We give away the most reading — sixteen vargas, four daśā systems, 300+ yogas and personalised daily, monthly and yearly horoscopes, with the paywall placed at the long reports rather than at your own chart.
The honest summary
Free kundli calculation is a solved, commoditised problem — several tools give it away completely and none of them is meaningfully more accurate than the others.
What is not free anywhere, and not solved anywhere, is the reading: weighing a chart’s contradictions into a conclusion and dating it. Judge free tiers by how close they let you get to that, not by how many tables they print.
Frequently asked questions
Which site gives the most free kundli features?
On raw computation, Jagannatha Hora — it is free desktop software with no tier above it. In a browser, AstroSage covers the most systems free. If you want interpretation rather than tables, our free tier includes all sixteen vargas, four daśā systems, 300+ yogas and personalised horoscopes.
Are free kundli calculators accurate?
The well-known ones compute from an ephemeris and are accurate. Errors usually come from your inputs — an imprecise birth time, or a place resolved to the wrong coordinates or timezone — not from the software. Enter your time to the minute if you possibly can.
Can I get a free D60 or Shashtiamsha chart?
Yes, on ours and on Jagannatha Hora and AstroSage. Treat D60 with caution regardless of source: a single division spans thirty arc-minutes, which the Ascendant crosses in about two minutes, so an imprecise birth time makes it unreliable no matter who computed it.
Is free kundli matching reliable?
Free Ashtakūṭa matching is computed correctly nearly everywhere, but thirty-six points built almost entirely from the two Moons is a coarse instrument. A high score with an afflicted Navāṁśa 7th or a damaged Upapada is exactly the case where the score misleads, which is why we read those separately.
Why do different free sites show different results?
Almost always the ayanāṁśa setting or the birth-time and timezone resolution. Set the same ayanāṁśa, enter the same precise time and coordinates, and competent tools converge.
How we compare, and how to correct us
Every rival feature listed here was checked against that product’s own public pages and free tools on the date shown above. We compare what a visitor can actually see and use without paying — not internal capability, not accuracy of predictions, which no one can measure from outside. Products change, and some of these teams ship quickly; if something below is out of date or wrong, write to us and we will correct the page. We would rather be accurate than flattering.
