Where a browser engine earns its place
It reads the chart. JHora hands you correct tables and expects you to know what to do with them. That is the right decision for its audience and a wall for everyone else. Our engine applies a stated hierarchy — lordship over occupancy, occupancy over aspect, graha dṛṣṭi over rāśi dṛṣṭi, rarity as weight — and reaches a verdict with the contributing placements shown. You can disagree with it; you cannot say it declined to conclude.
It runs where you are. JHora is a Windows application. On a Mac it needs a compatibility layer, on Linux it needs Wine, and on a phone it does not run at all. Ours runs in any browser and as an Android app, which for most people is the difference between using Jyotiṣa software and not using it.
It answers questions. “When is marriage likely?”, “job or business?”, “will the property come through?” — 289 of them, routed to the varga that governs the topic and dated against the daśā. A calculator, by definition, does not do this.
It writes in your language. English, Hindi, Bengali, Tamil, Telugu and Marathi. Tables are language-neutral; readings are not.

This is the recommendation we would give a student. Use Jagannatha Hora when you want a daśā system we do not carry, a variant varga scheme, or research across a chart collection — it is free and nothing else reaches that depth. Use us for the reading, the timing narrative, the question-answering and the phone in your pocket. They are not substitutes; one is a laboratory bench and the other is a working desk.
Why interpretation, not calculation, is the unsolved problem
Computing a Navāṁśa is arithmetic. It has been solved for centuries, and any competent implementation agrees with any other to the second of arc. Nobody needs another calculator.
What is not solved is the weighing. A real chart routinely says four contradictory things at once: the 10th lord is exalted but in the 6th; Jupiter aspects the 7th but the Upapada is afflicted; the Vimśottarī daśā favours a period the Nārāyaṇa daśā does not. A calculator prints all four and stops. A tradition-trained astrologer resolves them from experience. Software that intends to be useful has to encode the resolution rules explicitly — which signal outranks which, when a benefic genuinely cancels an affliction and when it merely softens it, when a rare combination overrides a common one.
That is the work this engine does, and it is why we happily concede the calculation rows above. Calculation is table stakes. The judgement is the product.

Does Parasara Jyotish compute Nārāyaṇa daśā like JHora?

Which is more accurate?
Both compute from an astronomical ephemeris and will agree on positions given the same ayanāṁśa and birth data. Where results differ between any two Jyotiṣa programs, it is almost always a settings difference — ayanāṁśa variant, varga scheme, or daśā convention — not one of them being wrong.
I am a beginner. Which should I start with?
Start with a tool that explains what it is showing you, or the tables will teach you nothing. Come to JHora once you know what a Sudāśā antardaśā is and why you want to look at one — at that point its depth becomes an asset rather than a wall.
