Timing predictions — when does the chart say it will happen?
The "when" question is Vedic astrology's greatest strength. While natal chart analysis tells you what is promised, the Vimshottari Daśā system tells you when that promise activates. The 22 timing questions above each target a specific life event — marriage, home purchase, child, financial peak, career break — and answer from your chart's current and upcoming planetary periods.
Timing requires the daśā layer (current Mahadasha and Antardasha) AND the transit layer (Jupiter and Saturn over relevant houses). Both must align for a prediction to be reliable.
How Vedic astrology layers timing
Mahadasha
6–20 years
Sets the dominant theme and general conditions for all areas of life over a long period.
Antardasha
Months–2 years
Sub-period within the Mahadasha — brings a specific planet's qualities into focus within the main theme.
Pratyantar
Weeks–months
Third-level period — pinpoints when within the Antardasha a specific event is most ripe.
Jupiter transit
~1 year per sign
Jupiter's annual transit over key houses from the natal Moon triggers opportunities and expansion in those life areas.
Saturn transit
~2.5 years per sign
Saturn's Sade Sati (7.5 years over Moon, 12th and 2nd from Moon) is often a defining restructuring period.

Timing astrology — common questions
How does Vedic astrology predict 'when' something will happen?+
Vedic astrology uses a layered timing system. The primary layer is Vimshottari Dasha — planetary periods running for 6 to 20 years each. Within each Mahadasha are Antardashas (sub-periods of months to two years), and within those are Pratyantar dashas (weeks to months). An event is most likely when: the relevant Mahadasha and Antardasha lords are connected to the relevant house (e.g. 7th house for marriage), AND a transit of Jupiter or Saturn confirms it simultaneously. Both layers must align.
When will my life improve?+
Life generally improves in: the Mahadasha of a strong benefic planet (Jupiter, Venus, or the yogakaraka for your lagna) after a difficult Saturn or Rāhu period; when Jupiter transits over the natal lagna or Moon (approximately every 12 years this happens in the most direct way); when Saturn completes Sade Sati (the 7.5-year transit over the Moon). The tool above checks your current daśā and upcoming planetary transitions and gives you the specific window when conditions shift in your chart.
When will my difficult period end?+
A difficult period in Vedic astrology usually corresponds to: a Saturn Mahadasha (19 years) or Rāhu/Ketu Mahadasha (18/7 years) when these planets are unfavourably placed in your chart, or Sade Sati (Saturn transiting over your natal Moon for 7.5 years). These periods always end. The tool reads your current Mahadasha and Antardasha transition dates and tells you when the next period lord takes over — and what its quality is for your chart.
Why don't good dashas always bring good events immediately?+
A good Mahadasha lord still needs a supportive Antardasha to deliver results. For example, Jupiter Mahadasha is generally positive, but an Antardasha of Saturn (delay) or Rāhu (confusion) within it can temporarily suppress Jupiter's blessings. The event happens when the Antardasha lord is also connected to the relevant house. Additionally, Jupiter must be strong in the natal chart — a debilitated Jupiter's Mahadasha is far less positive than an exalted one.
What is a 'golden period' in astrology?+
A golden period is when the Mahadasha lord is a powerful benefic for your lagna (especially the yogakaraka — ruling both a kendra and a trikona), its Antardasha also supports the same house indicators, and Jupiter simultaneously transits a favourable house from the natal Moon. Most people have 2–3 major golden windows in their lifetime — each lasting 1–5 years — when multiple life goals can be achieved simultaneously. The tool identifies your upcoming positive windows from your chart.
