Student Chart — D10 Narayana Dasha Career Analysis & TP Charts
A student out of work for more than two years, read again after earlier predictions failed. Narayana Dasha of the D-10: the last one-third of Libra dasha belongs to Venus, whose yoga with Ketu and Netrapani avastha block a job until August 2005; Virgo dasha, the lagna, then gives a new beginning, and the Mercury–Saturn raja yoga is timed to March 2010 – February 2011. The Tithi Pravesha charts confirm it: in 2004 the 3rd and 8th lords sit in the D-10 lagna, so no job; in 2005 the Hora Lord Mercury is the 3rd lord in the 3rd, and Jupiter in the 6th with the 5th lord and Hora Lagna gives a full-time job between August 27 and November 4. Also taught: Karma Sahama, 3rd lord in the 3rd, Harsha and Dhimanta yogas, raja yoga in the 12th judged from Arudha Lagna, and why no single technique is enough.
Key principle
Lagna always gives a new beginning. Lagna is the vitality. It is the seed from which everything comes.
Example Charts
Career Analysis — D10 Narayana Dasha
Why the chart is taken up again
- The student has been looking for a job for more than two years.
- The class had read his chart before with Vimśottarī and Tithi Praveśa and named a time for a job. It did not happen. The student: several opportunities came very close and then failed to materialise.
- So: see why the class was wrong, and use Narayana Dasha now.
- Stick to the Daśāṁśa. Dharmic work is also seen there, and for the actual career it is the right chart.
The D-10
- Lagna Virgo. Mercury (lagna lord) and Saturn (5th lord) in Libra, the 2nd. Venus (2nd and 9th lord) and Ketu (3rd lord) in Taurus, the 9th. Sun and Mars in Sagittarius, Jupiter in Gemini, Moon in Pisces. Ārūḍha Lagna in Scorpio.
Back-rising signs
- Pṛṣṭhodaya (rise with the back): Aries, Taurus, Cancer, Sagittarius, Capricorn — remember 1, 2, 4, 9, 10.
- All the others rise with the head (śīrṣodaya), except Pisces, which rises with both — treat it as the middle.
- A śīrṣodaya sign or a planet in one gives its results as early as possible; pṛṣṭhodaya, as late as possible.
Libra Narayana Dasha in D-10 (Aug 31, 1998 – Aug 31, 2005)
| One-third | Dates | Results of |
|---|---|---|
| 1st | Aug 31, 1998 – Dec 29, 2000 | Libra itself (śīrṣodaya) — the 2nd house |
| Middle | Dec 29, 2000 – Apr 28, 2003 | Occupants and aspectors: Mercury and Saturn in Libra; Venus and Ketu aspecting from Taurus by rāśi dṛṣṭi |
| Last | Apr 28, 2003 – Aug 31, 2005 | The lord Venus, who is in Taurus (pṛṣṭhodaya) |
The last one-third, quarter by quarter (Venus is a benefic):
- Capricorn and Aquarius antardaśās — place, then lordship. The 2nd and 9th are not the houses that give a job; lagna, 5th and 10th are. But they are not bad houses either: the 9th is dharma in one's work and in society. On Narayana Dasha alone, had he tried seriously he could even have got a job then.
- Pisces antardaśā (Jun 2004 – Jan 2005) — yoga with Ketu. Ketu is the 3rd lord, and the 3rd is the house of a short break, a vacation. The 3rd lord joining the 9th lord is not auspicious, and Ketu wants the fortune of the 9th withdrawn. A very bad period for getting a job, even if other daśās promise something.
- Aries antardaśā, Jan 28 – Aug 31, 2005 (running at the time of the class) — avasthā. Venus is in his own sign, but old, and in Netrapāṇi. The 9th lord normally gives easily; in this avasthā the protection he needs in his career will not come easily. He has to work hard for it.
Conclusions:
- 2003–2004 were more favourable than the period running now.
- Not so favourable for getting a job or good work. Good for putting a lot of effort into dharma: the 9th lord in the 9th of D-10 shows dharmic activity in society, and this result dominates the whole of Venus's one-third (Apr 2003 – Aug 2005).
"Having a job as a software engineer or hardware engineer is one aspect of the karma. If you are teaching some students how to do yoga, that is also karma that you are doing in the society."
Virgo Narayana Dasha in D-10 (from Aug 31, 2005; 11 years)
- Virgo is lagna. Lagna is the vitality, the seed from which everything comes. A lagna daśā always promises a new beginning — unless it is a very bad house from Ārūḍha Lagna.
- From Ārūḍha Lagna (material status and image) Virgo is the 11th: gains, fructification of desires. A good daśā.
- Virgo is śīrṣodaya and its lord Mercury sits in Libra, also śīrṣodaya. Both give as early as they can.
| One-third | Results of |
|---|---|
| 1st | Virgo itself |
| Middle | Mercury |
| Last | Occupants and aspectors: Mars, Sun, Jupiter, Moon (all aspect Virgo by rāśi dṛṣṭi) |
First one-third — the job
- Daśās of lagna, 5th, 9th and 10th bring new breaks. A man out of work may get a job.
- The first antardaśā is Gemini, the 10th house. Lagna daśā, 10th-house antardaśā.
- Until August 31, 2005: "there is something in the pipeline, do pursue it" — but the teacher is not optimistic. After August 31: very optimistic; a very good chance within the next 11 months.
- When lagna gives the job there is usually some change in it: a new job, or a slightly different field.
Middle one-third — the rise
- Mercury (lagna lord) with Saturn (5th lord) is a rāja yoga: following, recognition of ability, growth in career. Better than the first one-third.
- Mercury's portion is the Libra, Scorpio, Sagittarius and Capricorn antardaśās.
- Mercury is a malefic here (with Saturn alone): avasthā in the 1st quarter, yoga in the 2nd → the Mercury–Saturn rāja yoga gives its result in the Virgo–Scorpio antardaśā, March 2010 – February 2011. Some rise in career is expected then.
TP Chart Analysis (Career)
The annual charts are Tithi Praveśa charts cast for the birthplace. In each, read the rāśi chart first, then the Daśāṁśa. The Hora Lord is the ruler of the year; the houses he owns and occupies set its theme.
The 2009 chart was skipped: its lagna is 0°03' Aries. A birth time 11 seconds earlier makes it Pisces, and the birth time is not known to 10 seconds.
2004 TP Chart (Sep 6, 2004 – Aug 26, 2005) — the year running
- Hora Lord = Moon. Rāśi (Virgo lagna): Moon exalted in the 9th, the 11th from Ārūḍha Lagna.
- D-10 (Taurus lagna): Moon exalted in lagna with Jupiter → Gajakesari Yoga in lagna.
- Gajakesari shows long-lasting fame: some good karma that keeps your name for a long time ("a long time" can be a lifetime or several months). So Jupiter's daśā (Sep–Nov 2004) or Moon's (Mar 16 – May 5, 2005) should have given good work in society and a good name.
- But not a job. Moon is the 3rd lord (vacation, break). Jupiter is the 8th and 11th lord, and the 8th in D-10 is the long break, even retirement. The lords of the two houses of being out of work sit in lagna, whose business is a new beginning. They have been put in charge of something that is not on their agenda.
"They are placed in charge of something that is not in their agenda. Their agenda is something else."
Mercury daśā (May 31 – Jul 25, 2005)
- Mercury is the 5th lord (recognition) and lord of the Ghāṭikā Lagna — if the Ghāṭikā Lagna is accurate. He has argalā on the 6th house of service. His agenda is recognition and a job.
- But he has no yoga with the Hora Lord Moon. He is in a quadrant from Moon, nothing more. A planet linked to the ruler of the year is more disposed to give.
- So: he may not get the job in this period, but it should bring progress and new connections that help. Try very seriously in June.
Saturn daśā (after Mercury, to the end of the year)
- Saturn is the yogakāraka, but he is with Mars and will give Mars's results.
- Mars is the 7th lord. The 6th is service, the 7th is business. Mars's agenda: break a job if there is one, give a business if there is none. Business is also his natural instinct.
- Thoughts of a business opportunity may come. A job is unlikely. Mercury has the better chance.
2005 TP Chart (from Aug 26, 2005) — the year the daśā points to
Rāśi (Virgo lagna)
- Hora Lord = Mercury, the lagna lord, conjoined with the 5th lord Saturn (about 11° and 20° of Cancer — within 9–10°). A good yoga.
- Karma Sahama at 7° Gemini, in the 10th. Its lord is Mercury (see Part 7).
- Either Saturn's period or Mercury's is very likely to give work.
- But the rāśi chart only says he will have good work to do. Is it good work in society, or an actual career? That has to show in the Daśāṁśa.
D-10 (Cancer lagna)
- Mercury, the Hora Lord, is exalted in the 3rd house in his own sign; he is the 3rd and 12th lord. The 3rd is initiative and also the short break. Will he continue the break or give the job? A tricky call.
- Had another lord been in the 3rd it would have been more dangerous. He is the 3rd lord in the 3rd: on career matters the year will be relaxed, without much pressure (see Part 8).
- Lagna lord Moon aspects lagna (from Capricorn, the 7th) → he will try to give a new beginning in career this year.
- Moon is with A10 and A5. A10 (Rājya Pada) is the actual work; A5 the actual recognition. The two ārūḍhas together are like the 5th and 10th lords together. From Ārūḍha Lagna Moon is in the 10th.
- 6th house of service: Jupiter in his own house — 6th lord in the 6th, Harṣa Yoga. With the 3rd lord in the 3rd as well, "super Harṣa". Whether he gets a job or not, on the career front he will be relaxed and at peace next year, where this year there is a nagging worry.
- With Jupiter is Ketu, the 5th lord:
- 5th lord + 6th lord together = Dhīmanta Yoga. The 5th is ability, the 6th overcoming obstacles: his abilities are put to work and do not go to waste.
- Jupiter is also the 9th lord: the two trine lords, 5th and 9th, are together in the 6th. Trines show the blessings that come from the good done before; quadrants show effort.
- Hora Lagna is in the same 6th house. Planets with Hora Lagna generate money through the career — here, through service. Planets with Ghāṭikā Lagna generate power and position.
- Sun is in the 5th in Ghāṭikā Lagna (if the Ghāṭikā Lagna is accurate), in the Daśāṁśa of an adhimitra: Mars is his natural friend and, sitting in the next sign, a temporary friend too. Of all the planets it is the Sun who shows recognition of ability — a promotion, or new responsibility in line with his capability. In the Sun's period, around March, wherever he has joined he will be given responsibilities that match his capability.
Job or business? (a student's question)
- The 7th has Moon, but he is not strong in that sign. The 6th has its own lord and two trine lords, with Hora Lagna. Money will come through service, and it will come easily.
- In the Saturn period of the running year there may be thoughts that business is the better road. Service is the right thing in the coming year.
When: Jupiter's period, Aug 27 – Nov 4, 2005
- The year opens on August 26 with one day of Saturn's period.
- A job comes with recognition, so the 5th must be involved. The 5th is ability, recognition of ability, and following — people follow a man because they think him able. For a political leader getting elected the 5th is very important for the same reason. Jupiter (6th and 9th lord, in the 6th) is with the 5th lord Ketu and will give Ketu's result: the 5th lord going into the house of service.
- From Ārūḍha Lagna they are in the 9th. Getting a job changes status and image, so the planet that gives it must be well placed from AL; a planet in the 12th from AL is unlikely to give one. The 9th from AL is the perception of fortune: the world will see him as a fortunate man.
- The chance of a job is highest after August 27 and before November 4.
Full-time or contract?
- The 3rd house is the short break and also the contract job. Here Jupiter and Ketu have nothing to do with the 3rd lord Mercury, and Jupiter, 6th lord in the 6th, is strong and decides. The artha trikoṇa is involved more than the kāma trikoṇa → a full-time, long-term job.
- An earlier puzzle confirms the rule. In January the class had predicted for another native a contract job (3rd house) between January 27 and February 6, and a more permanent job after March 21, when the period of the Sun in the 5th began. He got the contract job on February 4 or 5, and wrote later that he moved to a permanent job in the first week of April.
What kind of work
- Jupiter in the house of service: judges, priests, respected people. Even as a permanent employee he will be like a senior consultant — one whose advice is sought and whose word has value.
- Jupiter and Ketu are both in Yamāṁśa. Yama is the unemotional, dispassionate following of dharma: doing the duty without emotion.
- Ketu is computers and machines.
- So: quality control, diagnostics, device or system verification — making sure that things work, not much design. Or, Jupiter being the adviser, the one who puts verification policies in place.
- The student: "I did do validation."
2010 TP Chart (from Sep 1, 2010) — the year of the Mercury–Saturn yoga
Rāśi (Libra lagna)
- Hora Lord = Mars, in the 12th with Venus (29°) and Saturn (10°).
- Venus = Ātmakāraka, Mars = Amātyakāraka, Saturn = Putrakāraka. AK + AmK is a rāja yoga; AK + PuK is a rāja yoga. The three together are very auspicious.
- Venus is the lagna lord (a trine lord) and Mars the 7th lord (a quadrant lord): their conjunction is a rāja yoga too, though the two are enemies. Saturn, the yogakāraka (4th and 5th lord), joins them.
- A rāja yoga that involves the Hora Lord and lagna or the lagna lord will actually manifest. Otherwise it may not.
- The yoga is in the 12th house — see Part 6.
- From Ārūḍha Lagna the three planets are in the 2nd: he will appear very resourceful to the people around him.
- This confirms the second part of the Virgo–Scorpio antardaśā, after September 2010.
D-10 (Pisces lagna) — is it career, spirituality, or something else?
- Mars, the Hora Lord, is the 9th lord, exalted, with Jupiter, the lagna lord and 10th lord.
- 9th lord + lagna lord = Lakṣmī Yoga. 9th lord + 10th lord = Dharma-Karmādhipati Yoga.
- Jupiter is debilitated and retrograde. A debilitated planet that is retrograde is akin to exalted → a yoga between two exalted planets, in effect.
- This yoga is stronger than the Venus–Mars one in the rāśi chart because Jupiter and Mars are friends. Enemies told to work together still produce the result of a good yoga, but with friction; friends do it happily.
- In that year's chart the Mars period or the Jupiter period should give a boost: some good work accomplished, and recognition for it.
Raj Yoga in a Dusthana
From the 2010 chart, where the yoga falls in the 12th house.
- Do not jump to call it a bad yoga. A rāja yoga in the 6th, 8th or 12th can still give very good results.
"There are so many indications possible, but still, Raj Yoga is Raj Yoga."
- In the 12th it fructifies in such a way that he is detached — not attached to the result and not happy about it. There may be some giving up or compromise. It may relate to spirituality.
- The yoga is strong from lagna. Whether it raises or lowers his material status is seen from Ārūḍha Lagna, not from lagna.
- From Ārūḍha Lagna three houses stand out:
- 1st — the overall image
- 2nd — what feeds the image: the resources people think he has
- 9th — the protection of the image
Karma Sahama — For Career Timing
- Karma Sahama is the sahama to see for career and work, as Vivāha Sahama is for marriage.
- A sahama is seen in the rāśi chart.
- 2005 TP chart: Karma Sahama at 7° Gemini, the 10th house. Its lord Mercury is therefore the 10th lord, is the Hora Lord, is the natural significator of work, and is in a rāja yoga with the 5th lord Saturn.
- On the rāśi chart this makes the Saturn or Mercury period very likely to give work. Whether it is a career is then checked in the Daśāṁśa (Part 5).
3rd Lord in 3rd House — Key Rule
From Mercury in the 2005 TP Daśāṁśa.
- The 3rd is the house of initiative, of optimism and spirit, and of the short break. On a break one is happy, relaxed, cheerful — that too is the 3rd.
- A benefic in the 3rd, in general, is not good for initiative.
- But a planet in his own house cannot take that house down. He has to promote it — in the manner he knows.
| 3rd lord in the 3rd | How he promotes the house |
|---|---|
| Mars | Aggressively — "let's do something" |
| Jupiter, Mercury, Venus or Moon | Happily and cheerfully. The initiative is there, but with no fire and no discomfort; it works under very little pressure. A sāttvika desire |
- The planet who gives the initiative is relaxed, so the man has initiative and no pressure. He does not have to struggle; things happen for him.
- The classics: with a benefic 3rd lord in the 3rd there are no worries; the person is happy and relaxed.
- 3rd lord in the 3rd is very strong. Things happen relatively easily.
"It's not like, oh my God, I must get a job, I have to do something about this — that kind of initiative."
Why No Single Technique Is Sufficient
A student asked how the transits of the daśā planets are weighed against the annual chart.
- An event does not happen for one reason — not because Mercury's period began, or Saturn entered Cancer, or Jupiter's Tithi Praveśa daśā is running. There are millions of reasons, of which we know two or three.
- the native Chopra's figure: in any second some 300 million biochemical events happen in the body, all different, all working to one end. So do millions of factors blend to bring one event.
- We look at the tail of the elephant, or the tusk, and judge that it is an elephant.
- That is why several techniques raise confidence. One technique alone will not be right every time — perhaps 80 or 90 per cent. With all the factors it comes closer to 100.
- Transit is not only "Saturn is in Cancer". Which navāṁśa, which nakṣatra, which quarter of it — all have a say in what Saturn gives.
"This is just the tip of the iceberg. Jyotish is like a vast ocean."
