Not “are they compatible” — “are they likely to marry”
Compatibility answers whether a marriage would go well. Probability answers the question that comes before it: how likely is it that these two charts actually lead to marriage. The tool reads the cross-chart links between one person's planets and the other's marriage points, lays each Upapada Lagna and 7th sign over the other chart, and — most importantly — checks whether both charts carry a live marriage promise that matures in the same window. Two compatible people whose timing never overlaps often do not marry; that is what a probability read is built to catch.
What the probability weighs
| Signal | What it tells us |
|---|---|
| Cross-chart planet links | Connections between one person's key planets and the other's 7th house, Lagna and Venus — the ties that actually pull two charts toward a union rather than a passing acquaintance. |
| Upapada & 7th overlays | Each chart's Upapada Lagna and 7th sign laid over the other's chart, to see whether the marriage significators of one fall on the sensitive points of the other. |
| Shared destiny signature | Whether both charts independently carry a live marriage promise in the same window — two people ready for marriage at the same time is what turns attraction into a wedding. |
| Timing overlap | The dasha and transit windows in which each chart's marriage indicators activate, and whether those windows coincide. |
Frequently asked questions
How is probability different from the compatibility score?
Compatibility assumes a marriage and scores how good it would be. Probability asks the earlier question — how likely is it that these two charts lead to marriage at all. A couple can be highly compatible yet unlikely to marry because their charts point elsewhere or their timing never overlaps; and two people whose charts strongly pull together may marry despite a middling compatibility score.
Can a chart show that marriage will not happen?
It can show a weak or delayed marriage promise — a badly afflicted 7th house and lord, a weak Venus, and an Upapada Lagna under pressure. In the Parāśara view this rarely means an absolute denial; more often it means marriage comes late, with effort, or under specific conditions. The probability reads the strength of the promise, not a yes-or-no fate.
What raises the probability between two people?
Strong cross-chart links to each other's 7th house, Venus and Lagna; both charts carrying a live marriage promise; and — decisively — those promises maturing in the same period. When one person's marriage window and the other's coincide, the probability is at its highest.
Does high probability guarantee marriage?
No. Astrology reads the promise and the timing, not a certainty. High probability means the charts and their windows strongly support a union; free will, circumstance and choice still decide the outcome. Treat it as a strong indication, not a verdict.
